Happy 8th Birthday, Talbott Talent!

Eight years ago, Talbott Talent began during one of the hardest seasons of my life. I had just lost my brother, filed for divorce, and my family was navigating significant mental health challenges. Out of that pain came something unexpected. It sparked creativity and fueled the start of a business that has grown into something deeply meaningful.

As I reflect on this milestone, I feel overwhelming gratitude. Starting and growing Talbott Talent has been both challenging and rewarding. Here are the moments and lessons that stand out most:

1. Commitment to Nonprofits

From the start, we made a promise to work exclusively with nonprofits. We’ve stayed true to that. It would have been easy to expand into for-profit recruiting, but I wanted our work to remain focused on the organizations making a difference. Helping nonprofits find the right people to advance their missions is the reason we exist. That commitment has been at the heart of everything we do.

2. Creativity and Growth

Staying small has allowed us to be flexible and creative. Over the years, we’ve tried new services like strategic planning and board development. While those offerings aren’t part of our core services today, they taught us so much. That experience shaped tools like our executive needs assessments and onboarding services, which have made our search process stronger and more effective.

3. Meaningful Work

I didn’t start this business just to build something. I wanted to spend my life doing work that matters. Partnering with nonprofits to help them build stronger teams has been exactly that. Every placement we make moves their work forward, and seeing the impact of those teams keeps me inspired every day.

These eight years have been an incredible journey. To our clients, team, friends, and family—thank you for being part of it. Thank you for trusting us, supporting us, and believing in what we’re building. I’m excited for what’s next and grateful to keep doing work that truly matters.

With gratitude,

Leah York
